Check this before transferring your domain

Can you guess? How difficult it is to guess that a renowned domain provider doesn't have a functionality as basic as importing a DNS Zone File (DNS records file). I recently switched from GoDaddy to Namecheap because GoDaddy started charging twice.

I contacted Namecheap customer support, and they said.........๐Ÿ”š

When I switched to Namecheap. I was like, it will be very easy, as per my previous experience with Gandi.net and GoDaddy.

I thought I would just need to import the zone file, and everything would be done. However, I consider it my mistake that I didnโ€™t check properly at the beginning and instead assumed the option would be available simply because I was moving to a well-known provider.

But after spending almost 2 hours didn't find any option to import a DNS zone file (It is basically a list of DNS records that you can import later to any other service provider).

Luckily, GoDaddy nameservers were still managing my DNS. So there was no loss of traffic. But if this isn't the case, then it could become an issue for me to import all my 80+ DNS records manually.

I contacted Namecheap customer support, asking for the same if they have such an option available. They denied saying that they don't have the option to import DNS records in bulk. She asked a few questions and denied saying the same that we don't have the option to bulk import.

I said thank you, but this is really disappointing from a big domain provider like you. Then she suddenly transferred my case out of nowhere to some other representative, while denying it initially, and almost closed the case.

And finally, after 3 representative transfers and spending 1 and a half hours, they imported it from their system.

So my question is, is it really hard to implement this basic functionality? Or if not able to implement it, then just provide a note saying the bulk DNS records can be imported by contacting our team.

This still makes sense for good UX.
